She had been one of the angriest patients I had ever seen. Yelling and screaming so much and walking out of my office so often that I had figured she was out of my practice.

She had been traumatized — not only raped, but abused in other ways — which she had been unable to detail.

My husband will drive me a bit to go see a patient, closer to his home. I may nod off briefly, although I have had enough sleep.  Only to wake up again briskly when he slams on the brakes, which he will a few times, at least. I continue to be shocked by the total lack of empathy drivers have for each other.

Things have changed a lot since I started answering questions.  When I was a medical school professor, the most frequent question (from my students) was “Is this going to be on the test?”  There have been questions about general medicine, how to deal with doctors, and even sometimes about sex. The answer to pretty much all of the questions about sex ends up being “The sexiest organ in your body is your brain.  Change what it thinks, and you can change pretty much anything and make it better.” Read more on Introducing The Kindness Channel…
