Fifteen years after.  That means there are sentient, living teenagers who are (I hope) somewhere in school learning about this devastating event in some kind of secondary school curriculum, or perhaps witnessing public patriotic events. — But they don’t remember it, because they weren’t born yet.

I eagerly add my name to the list of those who want to pay tribute to those who perished in the horrific tragedy of 9/11/2001, and also to those who assisted in any way, to those survivors who were spared by either chance or the dedication of the heroic people who responded and tried to help.

Firefighters responding on 9/11As a former EMT working my way through medical school and a veteran of the US Army medical corps, I honor those who volunteer to serve, and are called upon in times of extreme need.

There are many others rushing to praise the 9/11 responders, seeking glory for praising and honoring our American heroes, and it may not be a bad thing — for one level of human need.

September 11, 2010 has come and gone and – surprisingly — no new war started nor has the planet been annihilated.  It really looked touch-and-go there for the previous week.

We have probably already forgotten about the events of this day, nine years after the most cataclysmic terrorist attack in US history.  We are mainly thankful that nothing like it has happened since.

By now, I suppose those of us who still believe in print media are using the September 11th, 2010 edition of our favorite newspaper to line the bottoms of bird cages or litter boxes or whatever. It seemed that this year, we were very, very close to something very, very bad happening.  We were literally on the brink of internecine warfare that could easily have destroyed the earth.
